A Book Addiction

Living in a fantasy land

Ever since I was very young I have loved books. Books have been a solace for me in times when I haven't wanted to cope with the things around me, when I have felt rejected by my peers, or when I have just wanted to escape the chaos of every-day life and enter into a world that is made up entirely of someone else's imagination and brought to life using my own.
I read everything.
I remember being in primary school and reading some of my sisters high school English books, just because they were more interesting than the ones that they assigned to us at the time. (I was even dorky enough to be a library monitor when I was old enough)

I have never worried too much about genre. I choose books based on how the blurb appeals to me, or if someone has recommended it to me personally.
I like reading anything from True Crime to Classic Literature (and everything/anything in between).

My favourite books:

My favourite books are ones that I have read at any stage in my life, and that have stuck with me since then. I have read most of these over and over, and the copies I have are very worn.

Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen
Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte
The Help - Kathryn Stockett
The Reader - Bernhard Schlink
The Book Thief - Markus Zusak
Atonement - Ian McEwan
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer - Patrick Suskind
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
A Song Of Ice and Fire - George RR Martin
Going Postal - Terry Pratchett
The Kind Diet - Alicia Silverstone (V)
Ariel - Sylvia Plath

I know they are not to everyone's taste, but they are my favourites for a reason.
I always like hearing other people's favourite books, so that I can read them and broaden my own literary mind with something I may never have chosen for myself!
Please let me know what you think of my list, and give me a few of your own!

Quotable Quotes

"Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space."      —  Douglas Adams (The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy)

Steal five dollars and you're a common thief. Steal thousands and you're either the government or a hero." — Terry Pratchett (Going Postal)

"Stories of imagination tend to upset those without one."
— Terry Pratchett

"Like most misery, it started with apparent happiness."
   —Markus Zusak (The Book Thief)

"The soul, fortunately, has an interpreter - often an unconscious but still a faithful interpreter - in the eye."  - Charlotte Bronte (Jane Eyre)
